“Klay is stuck in purgatory right now” – Klay Thompson’s father makes honest opinion on Mavericks

Gulshan Sharma

Klay Thompson is averaging 14.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest.

Klay Thompson’s first season with the Dallas Mavericks is going in a different direction. Last season’s runner-ups are struggling with injuries, and Thompson’s father feels his son is stuck in purgatory post-Kyrie Irving injury fallout.

Thompson made a blockbuster move to the Mavs in the last off-season after a long stint with the Golden State Warriors. Things changed for the former Warriors star in the middle of the season. Luka Doncic was traded to the Lakers and Kyrie Irving is now ruled out for the remainder of the NBA season.

Mychal Thompson loses all hopes on Mavericks this season

Recently, his father, Mychal Thompson spoke about the Dallas Mavericks. He was not happy with current situation of the franchise. Thompson Sr. feels Mavs will lose the current season and their performance could be worse.

“He [Klay] thought with Luka and Kyrie that they had a chance to get back to the [NBA] Finals. Obviously, Luka left. Then I told him, well, AD is coming. You still got a chance to get to the Finals because AD is that good, and then he’s hurt. Then Gafford got hurt. Then Lively got hurt,” Klay Thompson’s father said.

“Klay is stuck in purgatory right now, and if they hang on to the 10th seed, that will be the story of the year in the NBA,” Mychal said (via ESPN Los Angeles). “I think they’re going to lose ten in a row.”

Klay Thompson is averaging 14.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest while shooting 41.6% from the field and 40.2% from the three-point range in 55 games.

Dallas Mavericks are 32-31 in the Western Conference and are sitting 10th in the standings. Mavs played their first game following Irving’s season-ending injury and suffered a 137-107 to the Bucks on road.

Klay Thompson scored 28 points, four rebounds, four assists and one steal while shooting 11/27 from the field and 6/14 from the three-point range on Wednesday.
