Arsenal have flown to the Netherlands to take on PSV Eindhoven for the Champions League round of 16 first leg match. The match is set to begin at 3:00 PM ET on Tuesday at the Philips Stadion, Eindhoven. Arsenal directly qualified for the knockout stages after finishing third in the group stage.

However, PSV finished 14th in the table and had to knock out Juventus in the playoffs to qualify for the round of 16 stage. They’ve been struggling domestically in recent times, similar to Arsenal whose Premier League title chances are fading, so it will be an interesting clash with both teams giving it all.

Arsenal are in second place in the Premier League table, 13 points behind table-toppers Liverpool. Hence, at this point, their best chance for any silverware is relying on the Champions League. However, there are a few problems like the lack of goals for the Gunners.

They’ve failed to score in consecutive league games which hasn’t been seen in almost two years. Whereas, if they win this UCL match, they’ll have a record of five consecutive wins in one season of this tournament in almost two decades. However, the win won’t come easy with PSV also struggling domestically.

Similar to the Gunners, PSV are in second place in Eredivisie, 8 points behind Ajax, the table-toppers. However, unlike Arsenal who have been impeccable at the back, PSV’s main problem has been in their defense. They’ve conceded several goals in 11 of their last 14 games. However, they have records in their favour with an unbeaten home record against Arsenal since 2002.

PSV vs Arsenal Team News

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is plagued with injuries as key players, like Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and Takehiro Tomiyasu are still sidelined with various issues. However, they will get Myles Lewis-Skelly back after serving suspension. He should replace Riccardo Calafiori in the playing squad.

On the other hand, even though there are some cramping concerns, Ethan Nwaneri should start the match. If he begins the match, he will become only the third English player who’s below 18 years of age to feature in a Champions League knockout match.

Meanwhile, PSV will be missing key players like, Esmir Bajraktarevic, Ricardo Pepi, and Malik Tillman from the attacking lineup. With the crisis in the front, they recently signed former Arsenal striker Lucas Perez. However, he is not eligible for the Champions League, so he won’t be able to play against his former club.

In the defense, Mauro Junior should return to bring some reinforcement. Whereas, captain Luuk de Jong will be making his 50th Champions League appearance which will add his name to an elite list of Dutch strikers consisting Roy Makaay, Patrick Kluivert, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Robin van Persie.

PSV Eindhoven Probable Lineup:
