Sidney Crosby Climbs to 10th in NHL All-Time Assists, Passing Gordie Howe

The Penguins captain adds another milestone to his legendary career, passing Gordie Howe in assists and Bobby Hull in goals during a game against Toronto.

Sidney Crosby continues to carve his name into the NHL record books.

During Sunday afternoon’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Pittsburgh Penguins captain reached another remarkable milestone, surpassing the legendary Gordie Howe for 10th place on the all-time assists list. Crosby accomplished this feat with two assists in the game. His first came in the opening period with a secondary assist on Rickard Rakell’s goal, tying him with Howe. Later, in the second period, he officially passed “Mr. Hockey” by setting up Bryan Rust’s goal, marking the 1,050th assist of his career.

Now, the next name on Crosby’s path is another Detroit Red Wings icon—Steve Yzerman, who recorded 1,063 assists over his 22-year career. But that wasn’t the only milestone Crosby achieved that night. In a fast-paced first period that saw a flurry of goals, he found the back of the net for the 611th time in his career, moving past Chicago Blackhawks great Bobby Hull for 18th place on the all-time goals list.

At 37, Crosby remains one of the league’s most dominant players. He leads all active skaters in assists and sits second in goals, trailing only Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, who is closing in on Wayne Gretzky’s legendary record of 894 goals.

In Penguins history, Crosby stands as the franchise’s all-time leader in games played (1,333) and assists while ranking second in both goals and points. Only the great Mario Lemieux, with 690 goals and 1,723 points, sits ahead of him in those categories.

With three points against Toronto, Crosby strengthened his position as Pittsburgh’s top scorer this season, having tallied 65 points in 61 games. Over his illustrious 20-year career, he has captured two Art Ross Trophies, two Hart Trophies, and two Conn Smythe Trophies, playing a pivotal role in the Penguins’ three Stanley Cup victories during his tenure.
