We have now reached Day 2 of the NFL Combine where we saw defensive backs and tight ends going all out in the Combine. While there were some players who have improved their draft stock, there are others who might have plummeted theirs. The Combine presents these players a make or break situation. Yesterday, in Day 1 of the Combine, we saw Shemar Stewart increase his draft stock from a potential 23rd, all the way into (possibly) top 10, and we also saw some DLs and LBs break some of the records which were previously set at the Combine.
Today we look at Day 2’s results and check out who were the winners and losers amongst defensive backs and tight ends.
Cornerbacks are expected to have a whole of speed and that is what Hairston exactly showed in the Combine. He was the fastest amongst any of the defensive backs and posted a blistering hot 4.28 40-yard dash and he also finished his 10-yard shuffle within 1.5 seconds. Hairston also posted a 39.5 inch vertical jump and broad jumped for 10-foot 9-inch. Overall, he was one of the top performers and the Combine only helped him boost his stock even further.

Darien Porter was the second fastest amongst defensive backs and was a close to beating Hairston for the best record. Porter clocked his 40-yard dash in 4.30 seconds. Even though, Porter did not need to run again after posting 4.30 at his first attempt, he chose to go again but this it was slightly than his first attempt at an unofficial 4.34 seconds.

Terrance Ferguson clocked his 40-yard dash in 4.63 seconds which was the fastest amongst tight ends. He also posted vertical jump of 39 inches, 10’2″ broad jump, and 10-yard split of 1.55s. For his height and size, at 6 feet 5 inches, 247 pounds, those are impressive numbers.

Emmanwori may stand at 6 foot 3 inches, 220 pounds, but that didn’t stop him from jumping out of the roof. He posted a 43-inch vertical jump, which was the third-best vertical for a Safety ever. He also posted a 11-foot 6-inch broad jump and completed his 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds. His display of his athleticism must have raised his draft stock.

Joshua Simon finished his 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds which was the second best amongst tight ends. He also posted 38 inch vertical jump, which was also tied for second best amongst TEs. Simon jumped for 10 foot 4 inches and was clearly one of the top tight ends amongst his peers.

There are only a couple of losers from day 2 of the Combine and that is mainly because some of the prospects did not even participate in the first place. We’re talking about WR/CB Travis Hunter, CB Will Johnson, and TE Tyler Warren. Apart from these players who did not compete in the NFL Combine, there are some who most likely lost even after participating.

This is not a knock on Starks as he performed well in the Combine. However, Starks was outperformed by another safety, Nick Emmanwori, who posted some of the best numbers at the Combine. Starks only jumped for 33 inches which was tied for the third-worst at his position. He also wasn’t even in the top-10 for the 40-yard dash time compared to Nick who ranked 7th.
His vertical jump at 30 inches ranked worst amongst TEs and he also clocked his 40-yard dash in 4.84 seconds which was the third-worst amongst his position. Posting numbers like that doesn’t do a prospect any favor and Helm could be looking at a steep decline in his draft stock.

mma I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
