Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards set to be suspended, here’s why

For every two additional technical fouls, the suspension will increase by one game.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is set to be suspended for one game after being ejected against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night. His suspension came after picking up his 16th technical foul of the season during the third quarter.

Edwards was not happy with the ejection, and the All-Star responded by throwing the ball into the stands. When he left the court with 5:21 remaining, the Lakers held a double-digit lead, and Minnesota didn’t recover despite outscoring LeBron and Co. in the second half.

According to the new rules of NBA, a player receives a one-game suspension, including a $5,000 fine after picking up 16 technical fouls in a season. For every two additional technical fouls, the suspension will increase by one game.

During the first quarter, Lakers’ Jarred Vanderbilt and Wolves’ Edwards received technical fouls. Anthony Edwards received his second technical foul in the third quarter for arguing a foul call. He can face more action for his outrage after the ejection as Minnesota star threw the ball into stands instead of giving it to officials.

The 23-year-old reached 13 tech fouls during the 121-115 loss to the Rockets on Feb. 21. He had 14 fouls before heading to Los Angeles. Edwards scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists during a 26-minute stay in his team’s loss to the Lakers.

Anthony Edwards, who came into the game fourth in the league in scoring at 27.5 points per game, will not take part in Minnesota Timberwolves’ road game against the Utah Jazz on Feb. 28. The three-time All-Star is averaging 27.5 points, 6 rebounds, 4.6 assists per game this season on 43.6% FG.
