In a nail-biting Game 3, the Guardians' bats came alive, with Noel and Fry delivering clutch home runs to secure a pivotal victory in the ALCS.
Facing elimination with just one out remaining and trailing the Yankees 3-0 in the American League Championship Series, the Cleveland Guardians pulled off a stunning 7-5 victory after 10 nail-biting innings at Progressive Field on Thursday.
David Fry delivered the final blow in a game full of heroes for the Guardians, who now trail the Yankees 2-1 in the series.
After Jhonkensy Noel’s two-run homer off Luke Weaver tied the game in the ninth, Fry sealed the night with a two-run walk-off homer to left field, sending the crowd of 32,531 into wild celebration.
“Amazing game to witness,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone remarked. “That was playoff baseball. Both sides just kept coming with haymakers.”
With two outs and a man on second, rookie Jhonkensy Noel introduced himself to the world with a pinch-hit, game-tying home run that sent the stadium into a frenzy. He knew it was gone the moment he hit it.
An inning later, David Fry crushed his own two-run homer, securing Cleveland a walk-off win and keeping their hopes alive in the ALCS. Both closers blew their saves, but Cleveland’s resilience was exactly what the team needed to stay in the fight.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who had been keeping a close watch on the game, couldn’t hide his excitement when David Fry’s 10th-inning walk-off homer brought the game to a dramatic close.
“Playoff baseball baby!!! @CleGuardians have the city absolutely ROCKIN TONIGHT!! What a game!” Kelce posted on X, along with three fire emojis.
Kelce, who grew up in Cleveland Heights, had been at Game 1 at Yankee Stadium with his girlfriend, pop star Taylor Swift, but clearly stayed tuned in for the thrilling conclusion of Game 3.
