“He is not with us” – Draymond Green ready to go hard at ex-teammate Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson opted for a change of scenery this offseason, joining the Dallas Mavericks after spending 13 years with the Golden State Warriors. This move generated considerable discussion during the Warriors’ media day, particularly when Draymond Green was questioned about facing his former teammate whenever the Warriors go up against the Mavericks.

When asked how he planned to guard Thompson in their upcoming matchups, Green made it clear that he would “Kobe-Pau” the situation.

“I’m running through his chest,” Green said. “He’s my brother, but he not with us. He with the ops.”

During the 2008 Beijing Olympics matchup between the USA and Spain, Kobe Bryant infamously charged through his LA Lakers teammate Pau Gasol’s chest. Through this, the Lakers great showcased the lengths he would go to win.

Given Green’s comments and his reputation as a defensive menace, it’s clear that their matchups will be fiercely contested.

Together, Green and Thompson have been instrumental in helping the Warriors forge a dynasty over the past decade. Their partnership, alongside Stephen Curry, led to four NBA championships. This solidified their legacy as one of the most successful trios in league history.

Following Klay Thompson’s departure, the Golden State Warriors explored potential moves for Paul George and Lauri Markkanen, but neither deal materialized. George ended up with the Philadelphia 76ers, and Markkanen re-signed with the Utah Jazz. The Warriors focused on adding De’Anthony Melton, Kyle Anderson, and Buddy Hield to strengthen their roster.

During the Warriors’ media day, Draymond Green praised the organization’s patience in navigating the trade market.

“We’re gonna sign a Buddy Hield,” Green said. “We’re gonna sign a De’Anthony Melton, we’re gonna sign a Kyle Anderson and just pluck away and chip away at it. I thought that was incredible. I thought it shows who this organization is.”

In most situations, you see someone panic, and they make a move that sets them back for five years,” he added. “One move in this league can pretty much set you up for how the next 10 years in your organization are going to go. Sometimes, the best deal you can make, is to not make a deal. And I think we did a great job in going out and getting pieces that will help this team grow.”

The Warriors’ most effective strategy for improvement lies in internal development. Brandin Podziemski, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody, all have the potential to make significant strides this season. If they can elevate their performance, it would greatly enhance the team’s prospects for competing for a championship.
