New Jersey goaltender set a new NHL record with his 25th career shutout on Monday.
Jake Allen registered his first shutout of the season in the Devils’ 3-0 win over Utah Hockey Club on Monday. With his first shutout against the new franchise, Jake Allen set a new NHL record by becoming the first goalie in history to have wins against 33 different franchises.
The 34-year-old goaltender surpassed Marc-Andre Fleury, who was the first in history to have wins against 32 NHL teams, after beating his former club, the Vegas Golden Knights in 2022.
While Allen now holds the record, Fleury, if he plays and wins against the Utah HC this season, could become only the second goaltender to defeat all 33 franchises.
Additionally, Allen’s 20-save performance in Devil’s win also placed him in the NHL’s top 100 all-time wins list, tying him with Jonas Hiller for 99th place.
While it was a special achievement for Allen, the Devils’ goalie claimed that it was the team’s victory that meant the most to him.
“The win is the important part, and the shutout is a bonus for me at this point in my career,” Allen said after the game.
Seamus Casey, Stefan Noesen, and Nico Hischier scored for the Devils, who won at Newark for the first time this season.
Casey gave the Devils an early lead on the power play at 1:14 of the middle period. Noesen then doubled the lead with an assist to Casey at 8:13 followed by a power-play goal at 10:13.
The Devils will now travel to visit the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.
