If Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto can secure record-breaking deals, why can’t Vladimir Guerrero Jr.? The Toronto Blue Jays slugger is making waves ahead of free agency with a bold claim about his future contract expectations.

The MLB landscape has changed dramatically when it comes to blockbuster contracts. Aaron Judge set the bar in 2022 with a nine-year, $360 million deal. Shohei Ohtani then shattered that figure, landing a historic 10-year, $700 million contract in 2023. Juan Soto followed suit in 2024, signing a jaw-dropping 15-year, $765 million deal.

Now, Guerrero Jr. is eyeing his own place among baseball’s highest earners.

Notably, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension earlier this offseason, fueling speculation about his long-term future. Since then, he hasn’t shied away from discussing free agency, even hinting at the possibility of signing with the Yankees, a team he once publicly dismissed as an option.

MLB insider Héctor Gómez recently reported that the Blue Jays are still pushing to secure Guerrero’s future, preparing an offer reportedly in the range of 14 years and $550-600 million.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is aiming for $700 Million

Despite ongoing negotiations, Guerrero has his sights set on a much larger payday if he delivers an MVP-caliber season in 2025. According to Yancen Pujols, Guerrero stated that if he plays at an elite level this year, he expects to land a contract in the range of $700 million, similar to Ohtani’s historic deal with the Dodgers.

However, if he struggles in what could be his final year in Toronto, Guerrero still sees his market value remaining high. He believes his “floor” in free agency would be around $500 million, making him one of the most sought-after players on the market regardless of performance.
