49ers’ Wideout DeMarcus Robinson Slapped with 3-Game Suspension Following DUI Charge

The 49ers will start the new season with injuries and suspension to core receivers

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Demarcus Robinson has been hit with a three-game suspension by the league after he pleaded no contest in a DUI case. The same has been confirmed by head coach Kyle Shanahan while speaking on KNBR on Wednesday.

“D-Rob, we’re not going to have him through the first three weeks,” said Shanahan before adding, “You can always appeal it, so we’ll hope for the best on that, but that’s what we are planning for.”

Robinson is now set to miss the critical start of the season and will be unavailable for the first three weeks against the Seahawks, Saints, and Cardinals. This becomes an even dire situation for the team as they will already be without WR1 Brandon Aiyuk, who is still recovering from his knee injury last season.

Why Did the League Suspend Robinson?

Last year, in November, while playing for the Los Angeles Rams, Robinson was pulled over by authorities and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI).

At the time of his arrest, the 30-year-old was reportedly stopped for overspeeding. Robinson was said to have been driving over 100 mph. No action was taken by the Rams after his release.

The former Chiefs’ receiver then pleaded no contest to misdemeanor DUI. Since then, Robinson signed a two-year deal with the 49ers this offseason, but before he can take the field for his new team, the league has handed him a three-game suspension.

Now that Robinson’s case has come to an end, the league has suspended Robinson for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The news doesn’t come as a shock, though, as the 49ers were already expecting the reprimand sooner or later, but it does serve as a major blow for them.

49ers Bring In Skyy Moore As Reinforcement

Robinson, who is set to enter his 10th year in the league, is coming off a career-best season with the Rams. Last year, he started all 17 regular-season games, catching 31 passes for 505 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns.

Immediately following the 3-game ban imposed on him by the league, the 49ers traded for fourth-year receiver Skyy Moore from the Kansas City Chiefs. The 49ers have several concerns at the start of the season as far as their receivers are concerned.

As mentioned earlier, Aiyuk is still recovering from his knee injury, and Jauan Jennings is currently suffering from a calf issue. Robinson’s suspension is the recent blow to the 49ers, who need drastic help in pass-catching options.

Moore, who was drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft, has failed to live up to his draft status. In three years with the Chiefs, the 24-year-old has just 494 receiving yards and a single touchdown.

Perhaps a fresh start in San Fran may prove to be a career changing option for the youngster. With multiple top receivers likely to miss the start of the season, Moore has the chance to shine and resurrect a career that has yet to take off.

After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
