The San Francisco 49ers are poised to make a comeback in the 2025 season, and get back into the playoff picture like they have been for the past few seasons except last year. The 49ers plan to put their star running back, Christian McCaffrey, at the forefront of their offensive plans for the 2025-2026 season. After a 2024 campaign derailed by injuries, the 28-year old star is primed for triumphant return, according to 49ers’ offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak.

McCaffrey’s Return to Dominance

49ers’ offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak recently shared glowing praise for McCaffrey, as he stated that he “looks awesome,” following a 2024 season where Achilles and PCL injuries limited him to just four games. The offensive coordinator’s enthusiasm was clear and he said the plan is to “get him the ball as much as we can.”

McCaffrey’s importance to the 49ers’ offense was evident in his standout season in 2023, where he dominated as a rusher and a receiver. Kubiak reflected about McCaffrey’s dominance in the past seasons saying, “you guys saw in 2023 how important he is to our offense… He’s one of our central players on offense.” The plan is to maximize his touches through handoffs and passes, using his versatility to challenge opposing defenses.

At 28, McCaffrey is currently in his prime, and the 49ers are banking on his recovery to restore their offensive identity.
