2025 WNBA Finals: Jackie Young’s Magical Third Quarter Leads Aces to Game 2 Win Over Mercury

The Las Vegas Aces recorded a 91-78 win over the Phoenix Mercury in Game 2 of the 2025 WNBA Finals on Sunday. With the victory, the Aces are now leading the best-of-seven series 2-0. Jackie Young led the charts with 32 points, eight rebounds, and two assists while A’ja Wilson recorded the 25th double-double of her playoffs career. The four-time WNBA MVP dropped 28 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists for the winners.

While Young tied a career playoff high in total points, she created history for scoring the most in a quarter of WNBA Finals. Apart from them, Chelsea Gray also recorded a double-double as she dropped 10 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists. The Mercury were led by Kahleah Copper’s 23 points, and three rebounds, while Satou Sabally dropped 22 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. Alyssa Thomas barely managed to reach the double-digit mark, as she finished with 10 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

Aces Take Control After Mercury Gain Lead in Opening Quarter

The Mercury started the game on a dominating note as they finished the opening quarter with a 27-24 lead. Kahleah Copper was leading the charts with 11 points while Chelsea Gray, A’ja Wilson and Jewell Young had seven points each for the Aces. In the second quarter, the Mercury scored six of their ten points in the first three minutes to take the lead to 33-27. However, the Aces went on a 11-0 run in the next two minutes to take command, and they closed the half with six straight points.

In the second half, Mercury got back-to-back buckets to make it 55-47 at 6:15. Following a timeout, the Aces responded with four points in a 10-4 run that expanded their lead to 65-51. At the end of the third quarter, Sabally led Phoenix with eight points while Young scored 21 points to set a franchise playoff quarter record. In the final frame, the Mercury pushed to cut down the lead to 12 points, 90-78, with 2:46 but it was too late.

The winners finished with 49.3% shooting from the field and 34.8% from the three-point range. On the other hand, the Mercury made 40.8% from the field and were held to 17.9% from beyond the arc. Contention will now move to Phoenix Arena for Game 3 and Game 4 of the WNBA Finals, scheduled on Wednesday, October 8, and Friday, October 10, respectively.
