The Golden State Warriors meet their 2025 NBA Playoffs matchup, the Houston Rockets, in the first game on Sunday. The Rockets have the home court advantage due to a higher seeding and will be hosting Steph Curry’s side in a Youth vs Experience clash.
GSW has had a rollercoaster of a season so far. They started their NBA 2024-25 campaign strongly and were labelled as a major contender for the championship. However, after a month or so from the start, all the magic started fading away.
Buddy Hield’s form dropped, Steph Curry’s fitness plummeted, and the Warriors became the exact shadow of their previous season. Cut to the Jimmy Butler trade in late January, Warriors started looking a different side stacking wins after wins. Though, their dip in form during the last part of the regular season was a cause of concern but they now find themselves against Houston Rockets after successfully winning their Play-In game against Grizzlies.
On the other end, the Houston Rockets defied expectations that were set during the start of the season. The young side with talents yet to prove themselves was not even in the conversation of NBA title contenders. The very side has now finished second in the Western Conference with a record of .634. They are similarly being written off against the Warriors as well.
"We are the underdog… Obviously, we don't view ourselves as an ordinary 7 seed… That's always fun when you get the opportunity to start on the road."

The Houston Rockets have faced the Golden State Warriors in four playoffs series so far. The Bay Area side has won all the four playoffs series which gives an idea of how one sided the rivalry has been especially in the knockouts stage.
In a total of 23 Playoffs matches between the two sides, the Golden State have 16 wins while Houston has 7 wins to their name. The two sides met for the first time in playoffs in the 2015 Western Conference Finals where the Warriors swept their rivals by 4-1.
In the 238 regular-season NBA games played between the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors, the former has dominated. The Golden State Warriors have 110 wins while the Houston Rockets have 128 wins. A large chunk of Houston wins came in the Pre Steph Curry era and since the arrival of the Baby-faced Assassin, Warriors have proven to be the Rockets’ Achilles Heel.
