2025 NBA Finals: Indiana Pacers on Cusp of Becoming Biggest Underdog Champions in Game 7 Showdown

Garima Ranawat

The NBA Finals 2025 series has come down to Game 7!

The Indiana Pacers are on the verge of creating NBA history as they stand one win away from clinching the 2025 Championship. The Pacers will be up against the OKC Thunder in Game 7 of the NBA Finals 2025 on Sunday, June 22. Having tied the series 3-3 in Game 6 with a huge 108-91 win over their counterparts, the Pacers are now just a victory away from not only lifting their first ever title, but also creating a staggering record.

If Indiana defeats Oklahoma City, they will become the biggest underdogs in the history of the league to win the finals. They had +5000 preseason odds to claim the title, while their rivals had +850 odds, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. The Thunder have been heavy favorites to claim the coveted Larry O’Brien Trophy since the beginning. While they have maintained incredible form throughout the season, the Pacers came back from behind and pulled off remarkable upsets to book their first NBA Finals spot in 25 years.

Before them, several teams including the Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets and the Detroit Pistons have emerged as underdogs to win the title. However, when it comes to odds, no team has come close to the Pacers. It means that they would factually be the biggest preseason underdog to take the trophy home.

OKC Thunder Emerge Heavy Favorites to Win 2025 NBA Finals Despite Game 6 Loss

The Oklahoma City Thunder have emerged as heavy favorites to lift their second overall NBA title despite losing the Game 6. According to BetMGM, they opened up as -8.5 favorites to win the title, and are currently -7.5 favorites. On the other hand, the Pacers trail them at +7.5. The moneyline odds for OKC to win the title are at -325, while those at the Pacers are at +260.

It is to be noted that after losing Game 4 and Game 5 consecutively, the Indiana Pacers made a remarkable comeback in the Game 6. Obi Toppin dropped 20 points and six rebounds off the bench to lead the side to push a decider. It is to be seen if the Pacers make the most of their first opportunity in over two decades to grab the title or the Thunder continue their prolific form and leave them empty-handed.
