The Cleveland Cavaliers duo of Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley won the Skills Challenge.
The 2025 NBA All-Star festivities are going on in full swing in San Francisco. After a successful conclusion of Celebrity Game and Rising Stars on the opening day, action shifted to Saturday, which saw another series of exciting events, including the Skills Challenge, 3-Point Contest and Slam Dunk Contest.
While the Skills Challenge saw the Cleveland Cavaliers making history, things weren’t the same for the San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul. The young phenomenon and veteran came up with a smart trick of clocking better time by bending the rules.
However, their trick not only ended up failing, but they also were immediately disqualified from the competition.
The 2025 NBA All-Star Skills Challenge required a two-member team to compete in an obstacle contest. It required the players to make corner threes, hitting free throws and passing through the targets. After missing three attempts, the players could move to the next obstacle.
The Spurs were first to go, and Wembanyama, going ahead of Paul, tossed the three balls off the rack without even looking and did the same with free throws as well as the corner 3-pointer.
By the time Paul stepped up, the crowd at the Chase Arena erupted in boos and the duo was disqualified by an NBA executive for not making ‘valid shot’ attempts.
The Cleveland Cavaliers duo of Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley turned out to be the winner after defeating the Warriors duo Draymond Green and Moses Moody. The Cavs became the first team to win the contest twice since it became a team event from 2022.
Not only this, but it was Mobley’s second win in the event and who joined the likes of Steve Nash and DWade as the only players to achieve the feat.
After the disqualification, Chris Paul opened up on the event and shared his thoughts about the action that led to their qualification.
Paul said, “We tried something that we thought could win — to see if we had the best time. It was fun.”
Not only this, but Wembanyama also made an honest admission and revealed that it was his idea of “hacking” the contest that eventually got them out of the contest. As per media, the Frenchman revealed that he had got a green signal from the officials to go ahead with the strategy he and Paul used.
However, the officials later gave them disqualification after the crowd booed.
