Will Richard Injury Update: What Happened to Golden State Warriors’ Rookie? When will he be Back?

Garima Ranawat

Warriors rookie Will Richard suffered an injury during second quarter.

On Saturday, November 30, the Golden State Warriors locked horns with the New Orleans Pelicans in the third of their four-game homestand. Coming off a four-point loss to the Houston Rockets, their fourth in the last five games, the Dubs were aiming to improve their NBA 2025-26 record and get back on track. Currently dealing with the absence of their superstar Stephen Curry due to a left quadriceps injury, the Warriors faced a stern competition from the Pelicans in the opening quarter of the game.

While they managed to make a comeback in the game towards the break, the hosts faced yet another injury setback. Rookie Will Richard suffered a lower back injury during the second quarter, and was forced to walk to the locker room. Notably, moments after the beginning of the second quarter, Richard attempted a rebound and was elbowed by New Orleans Pelicans forward Kevon Looney. The 22-year-old immediately stopped and grabbed his back before walking out to the locker room by himself.

When will Will Richard Return?

Moments after walking out, Richard was seen on the sidelines with a wrap around his midsection. While his official availability status for the remainder of the game remains unknown, it can be assumed that he would not enter the court tonight, considering how he is dealing with the injury. Notably, Richard remained scoreless while playing seven minutes on Sunday, but grabbed one rebound.

Picked 56th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies during the NBA 2025 Draft, but later traded to the Dubs, Richard has been on a roll ever since the beginning. The Florida product has displayed strong basketball IQ as well as steady performance under pressure along with defensive skills and shooting. Considering how the Warriors have already heavy veteran presence, the young lad has already shown that touch of athleticism and shooting skills. In 18 games that he has played, Richard is averaging 8.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.

He is shooting 54.9% from the field and 39.0% from the three-point range in 18.3 minutes per game.
