Who Won the 2025 NBA Finals MVP?

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won the 2025 NBA Finals MVP. His Game 7 performance clinched the award, securing his place in NBA Finals history as one of the game’s greats. SGA scored 29 points on 8-of-29 shooting. While it wasn’t his most efficient night, his leadership and late-game poise pushed the Thunder over the edge.

The Canadian guard’s brilliance all season long, coupled with his elite playoff consistency cemented his dominance among the league’s best. With the NBA Playoffs performances, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander proved he was a worthy winner of the MVP award this season.

In the 2025 NBA Finals, Shai averaged 30.3 points, 5.6 assists scoring 44% from the field. This marks the first time in 25 years that a player who won the regular season MVP and the scoring title has also clinched the NBA Finals MVP in the same season. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander swept all three awards creating another milestone for himself.

SGA on his award said, “A lot of hard work, this is a win for my family, for everyone, best fans in the world. Love you guys! We are now here with big time performances, shots.”

Only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, and Shaquille O’Neal had previously achieved this rare triple crown winning MVP, scoring title, and Finals MVP in one season. In fact, Jordan did it four times following an incredible set of championship wins in 91, 92, 96, and 98.

I cover NBA at the Playoffs. I specialize in covering breaking news, Previews, in in-depth analysis (breaking down numbers, complex stats, nuances of the game, and converting them into reader-friendly content). Furthermore, I got into the sports media while looking for an entry into the media industry. I love International Relations, and since entry without majoring in the subject was difficult, I got into sports. Now, while majoring in International Relations on one side, I also like covering sports as part of the journey as a young Journalist.
