The Indiana Pacers registered a statement 129-109 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4 of the conference semifinals series in the NBA Playoffs 2025 on Sunday, May 11. Leading the series 3-1, the Pacers are just one win shy from pulling off an upset and securing an Eastern Conference Finals 2025 berth.

The Pacers kicked off the series with two straight wins, and went all guns blazing in Sunday night’s game right from the first quarter. After recording a heavy 38-23 lead in the first period, the hosts posted 42 points in the second quarter, while the Cavaliers could only drop 16 points. With this, Indiana entered halftime 80-39, leading the table toppers by 41 points, and tying the NBA playoff record for the largest halftime lead.

What Are the Biggest Halftime Leads in NBA Playoff History?

Here are the top three biggest halftime leads in NBA postseason history.

41 points: The NBA record for the biggest halftime leads in playoff history is tied between the Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers. As the Pacers entered the second half with a 41-point lead over the Cavs in Game 4 on Sunday, they tied it with the previous record set by Cleveland in 2017.

The Cavaliers advanced to the second half with a 41-point lead over the Boston Celtics in Game 2 of the 2017 Eastern Conference Finals on May 20, 2017. They led the Celtics 72-31 and went on to win the game 130-86.

40 points: The record for the second largest lead in the NBA playoffs belongs to the Detroit Pistons, set on April 26, 1987. During Game 2 of the 1987 Eastern Conference First Round series against the Washington Bullets, the Pistons headed into halftime with a 76-36 lead and went on to win the game 128-85.

39 points: The record for the third largest halftime lead by a margin of 39 points in NBA playoffs history belongs to the Cleveland Cavaliers. During Game 4 of the 2025 First Round series against the Miami Heat, the Cavaliers headed into the second half leading the scoreboard 72-33. They pulled off a blowout 138-83 win, securing a sweep to book a conference semifinals berth.

What’s the Largest Halftime Lead in NBA History?

The NBA record for the largest halftime lead is 50 points, and the record was set by the Dallas Mavericks during their 124-73 win over the LA Clippers on December 27, 2020. The Mavericks led the Clippers 77-27 at halftime, and the lead surpassed the previous record of 47 points set by the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors set the record, when they led the Sacramento Kings 88-41 by the end of the second quarter on November 2, 1991. The Dubs ended up winning the game 153-91.
