Orlando Magic Secure Wendell Carter Jr. with Three-Year, $59 Million Contract Extension

Another key move from Orlando Magic to remain competitive for the upcoming season

The Orlando Magic have secured Wendell Carter Jr. for the long term, as the center has agreed to a three-year, $59 million contract extension.

His agent Mike Miller of LIFT Sports Management confirmed to ESPN’s Shams Charania. This deal keeps Carter under contract with the Magic through the 2028-29 season, with a total commitment of $82 million, including the remaining years on his current agreement.

Wendell Carter Jr’s new contract includes a team option for the 2028-29 season, according to sources reported by ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.

Since joining the Magic in the 2020-21 season after a trade from the Chicago Bulls, Wendell Carter Jr has become a foundational piece of Orlando’s frontcourt.

The 25-year-old averaged 11 points and 6.9 rebounds in 25.6 minutes per game last season, reinforcing his role in the team’s defensive and offensive setups.

This extension comes as part of a series of strategic moves by the Magic, who are building a frontcourt around standout young players Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

Earlier in the offseason, Orlando re-signed backup centers Goga Bitadze and Moritz Wagner and extended forward Jonathan Isaac, solidifying depth and consistency in their roster.

Carter’s contract signals Orlando’s confidence in its current rebuilding strategy, ensuring that key players are retained as the team eyes future success in a competitive Eastern Conference.

With a focus on continuity, the Magic are aligning their roster to develop chemistry and potential for playoff contention down the road.
