The Washington Wizards fans have much to look forward to after the recent game against the Brooklyn Nets. Almost all the starters put up a top performance, making their case stronger for an active roster seat.

Alex Sarr delivered a commanding defensive outing, recording 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 Blocks while finishing with a +16 efficiency rating in a statement game. He was one of the leaders of the pack that crushed the Nets’ offense.

The game was tightly contested, with both teams trading leads and neither side gaining a double-digit advantage. Neither the Brooklyn Nets nor the Washington Wizards led by more than nine points at any moment in the contest. The deficit was always in the single digit, that suited up for a thrilling finish.

The Washington Wizards had a more coordinated game, and they came out on top with a 102-96 win. Tre Johnson led the scoring sheet with a 21 point game. But the limelight was on Alex Sarr who will be a key figure for Wizards’ ambitions next season.

Alex Sarr Shines, Questions Still Linger

The 2024 NBA lottery pick, Alex Sarr has had various ups and downs. His previous NBA Summer League outing left fans and coaches disappointed, as expectations from the top draft pick fell short. As a top lottery pick, there was immense excitement across the league about his debut in Wizards colors.

However, multiple shortcomings, particularly on defense, painted a less flattering picture of his readiness. The 20-year-old missed many three pointers, and was frequently out muscled in the paint. A trait that looks like a red flag for a power forward/center.

Despite notable improvement last season where he averaged 13.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists, Sarr’s Summer League return raised new concerns. It highlighted the same problems from the previous year. In the first game, Alex Sarr had a slump in shooting and a poor defensive game.

He partially redeemed himself in the fourth quarter, although the game had already drifted into a non-competitive phase by then. Alex Sarr has shown a bright side of his play against the Nets, but the Wizards remain cautious as four games are still to be played in the NBA Summer League.
