The Golden State Warriors ended a three-game losing streak with a narrow 119-116 victory over the Phoenix Suns, a result that eased some of the mounting pressure around the team. Stephen Curry led the way with 28 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, while Will Richardson added 20 off the bench.
Devin Booker scored 38 for Phoenix, but Golden State’s win lifted its record to 14-15 in the Western Conference and provided a temporary reprieve from recent criticism.
Yet the spotlight quickly shifted to Jonathan Kuminga. After missing three games, he returned to action but played only nine minutes, shooting 1-for-5. His fluctuating role has become a recurring storyline, and with January 15 marking the date he becomes eligible to be traded, speculation has intensified.

Columnist Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle suggested the Warriors consider moving Kuminga, arguing that his inconsistency has become a distraction. Rival teams reportedly believe Jonathan Kuminga could thrive in a different system, adding fuel to the trade chatter.
Head coach Steve Kerr addressed the situation directly. He emphasized the importance of honesty in conversations with players, but also stressed the need for empathy. “Everybody wants honesty… they don’t want to be pandered to. You have to deliver those messages with some empathy,” Kerr said.
He acknowledged the human side of the business, noting Kuminga’s ties to the Bay Area and family considerations. Kerr drew a parallel to Andrew Wiggins’ uncertainty during a previous trade season, highlighting how difficult it can be for players to face the possibility of being uprooted.
Kerr also spoke about the broader reality of the NBA trade cycle. He explained that every year, one or two players inevitably become focal points of speculation as the deadline approaches.
The victory over Phoenix provided short-term relief, but the larger narrative centers on Kuminga’s uncertain role. As the Warriors attempt to climb back into contention, decisions about personnel will carry significant weight.
