Tyrese Haliburton Creates NBA Playoffs History As Pacers Take Commanding Lead Over New York Knicks

Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton delivered a standout performance and led his side to a 130-121 win over the New York Knicks in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Following the win, the Pacers are 3-1 over the Knicks, and are short of only one victory to earn their first NBA Finals berth in 25 years. The Tuesday-night game saw Haliburton recording a historic triple double and etching his name into the NBA Playoff history.

Haliburton poured in 32 points, 12 rebounds, and 15 assists, while shooting 11-of-23 from the field and 5-of-12 from the three-point arc. With this, the 25-year-old became the first player to have at least 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 15 assists with no turnovers in a playoff game. While Oscar Robertson and Nikola Jokic have already achieved the total, the Pacer star is the first one to do so without a single turnover.

He also became the first player in the history of the Pacers’ franchise to record multiple triple doubles. Not only this, but now he is also the fastest player since Magic Johnson to reach 500+ points, 150+ rebounds, and 250+ assists in their playoff career.

Haliburton joked about his Tuesday-night performance that not only entered his name into the record books but also guided the Pacers closer to the series win. Haliburton said that now he feels that records are being created just to make him look better. The two-time NBA All-Star, who had his father, John Haliburton, returning to Gainbridge Fieldhouse after a ban, spoke to the media after the victory.

The Pacers’ guard said, “I feel like we making up stats at some point to make me look better.” He added, “I’m just trying to play the right way, I just want to impact winning. I’m just trying to do that to the best of my ability. We’re building something special here. We’re having a lot of fun with what we’re doing. I feel like I’m at the forefront of that with a lot of these guys.”

Speaking about his father’s presence in the game, Haliburton said that securing a victory in front of his father is special. Haliburton said, “I wanted to win the game. Obviously my dad being here is special. Growing up, my dad was reffing a lot on the weekends, so he didn’t get to come to many of my games growing up, so when he would come to my games, I would want to play well. So with him being in the building, of course I wanted to play well.”

The Pacers will now travel to Madison Square Garden for the fifth game of the series on Thursday, May 29.
