The Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro will not be available to begin the 2025-26 NBA season after undergoing surgery on his left foot and ankle, according to a report from the Miami Herald’s Anthony Chiang.

Tyler Herro had been dealing with discomfort since the summer, Chiang noted. The Heat guard tried to manage the issue with PRP and cortisone injections in hopes of avoiding surgery. However, the pain persisted, leading to the procedure.

At this stage, no timetable has been announced for his return. The team is expected to provide an update following Friday’s operation.

The 25-year-old enters his seventh NBA season, all with Miami. Last year, he led the Heat in scoring with a career-best 23.9 points per game, while also averaging 5.5 assists across 77 appearances.

He connected on 37.5% of his three-point attempts and earned his first All-Star recognition as part of Kenny Smith’s “Young Stars” team. He capped the weekend by winning the three-point contest.

Tyler Herro’s production was vital for the Miami Heat. When he was unavailable, the Heat’s offense dipped by 8.6 points per possession. His absence to start the new season leaves a significant gap for a team still adjusting to the post-Jimmy Butler era.

Surgery Rules Out Tyler Herro for Heat’s Opener

There was also a minor concern earlier this summer at EuroBasket, where Nikola Jovic briefly dealt with a setback before returning to finish the tournament. Unlike Jovic, Tyler Herro will be sidelined, forcing Miami to open the season without its most reliable scorer.

Since joining the Miami Heat, Herro has grown from a bench contributor into a full-time starter by his fourth year. During the 2023-24 NBA campaign, he averaged 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists, showing his progression into a core piece of the Miami Heat’s plans.
