Dominating at Lake Highlands High School, he led the Wildcats to their first state championship since 1968, averaging 21.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists as a junior, earning Texas Mr. Basketball honors. Transferring to Link Academy for his senior year, Johnson showcased his sharpshooting, averaging 15.5 points while shooting nearly 40% from three and 90.5% from the Charity Stripe, guiding the Lions to a 26-7 record. His standout performances earned him a spot in the 2024 McDonald’s All-American Game, cementing his elite status.

Choosing the Texas Longhorns over Baylor, Johnson made an immediate impact in the SEC, earning spots on multiple prestigious awards list including Jerry West Award and Naismith Player of the Year watch lists. In his college debut, he dropped 29 points against Ohio State, later breaking Kevin Durant’s freshman single-game scoring record with 39 points against Arkansas, showcasing his scoring ability.
