Chris Paul, now in his 20th season in the NBA, reached a historic milestone during the San Antonio Spurs’ win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday. The 39-year-old point guard recorded his 12,092nd assist on a 3-pointer by rookie Victor Wembanyama in the third quarter to surpass Jason Kidd in second-most career assists.

Over his 20-year career, which has seen him play for seven different teams, Chris Paul has assisted 173 different teammates, with his former Clippers teammate Blake Griffin receiving the most (1,157 assists).

Jason Kidd, one of the most versatile point guards in NBA history, now sits at third on the all-time assists list. Over his 19-year career with teams including the Mavericks, Suns, and Nets, Kidd recorded 12,091 assists. He was a key part of the Mavericks’ 2011 NBA Championship team.

2. Chris Paul

San Antonio Spurs point guard Chris Paul added another milestone to his legendary career by climbing to second on the all-time assists list on Sunday. Against the New Orleans Pelicans – the team where his career began 20 years ago – the 39-year-old recorded 12,099 assists in the game to surpass Jason Kidd.

Paul, who was drafted fourth overall in the 2005 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Hornets, recorded the most assists (4,228) during his four-year tenure with the team.

Legendary John Stockton holds the record for most assists in NBA history. Stockton spent his entire 19-year career with the Utah Jazz, racking up an incredible 15,806 assists – a record that is unlikely to be surpassed anytime soon.
