Timberwolves Lock In Naz Reid With $125M Extension Deal

Timberwolves are keeping their core together, with Naz Reid expected to sign a massive long-term extension

Minnesota Timberwolves have made a move to keep one of their crucial stars ahead of a major offseason push. Center Naz Reid remains central to the Western Conference finalists’ vision, with a major extension now reportedly close.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Reid is close to signing a new five-year deal worth $125 million, which also features a player option. Both sides are aligned, and the extension now appears to be just a matter of timing.

The Minnesota Timberwolves want to build their roster around Anthony Edwards and hence have aligned Naz Reid’s contract with Edwards. Both have a contract till the season of 2028-29.

The former Louisiana State University player has been with the Timberwolves since 2019. Though undrafted in 2019, the Timberwolves recognized his upside early and signed him to a two-way deal.

Splitting time between the G-League and the NBA, Naz Reid slowly developed into a premier centre. His growth has been immense and that has brought him a starting role. The 25-year-old also won the NBA sixth man of the year award in 2024.

Reid Powered Deep Playoff Push

Naz Reid played a pivotal role in Minnesota’s impressive 2024-25 NBA campaign, anchoring both ends of the floor. The defensive powerhouse averaged 14.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. He shot 46.2 % from the field and 37.9 % from beyond the arc.

The Minnesota Timberwolves battled their way to the Western Conference Finals, marking their deepest run in recent years. They made a late push for the playoffs and qualified for it on the last day of the regular season. Beating the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors, the Timberwolves were kicked out by the OKC Thunder.
