Suns vs Clippers: Three Takeaways as Phoenix Suns Take Over James Harden-less Clippers at Home

Garima Ranawat

With the win, the Suns improved their tally to 4-5 in the season.

It was a night to remember for the Phoenix Suns and their guard Jalen Green. Green, who the Suns acquired in the 2025 NBA offseason, made his debut against the LA Clippers on Thursday, November 6. During his debut, Green not only led the Suns to a 115-102 win over the Clippers with his 29 points, but also broke the franchise record for most made threes in a Suns debut with 6. Apart from him, Devin Booker dropped 24 points, seven six rebounds and seven assists, while Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale, Mark Williams and Ryan Dunn dropped 18, 17, 13, and 10 points, respectively.

On the other hand, the shorthanded Clippers were led by Ivica Zubac, who dropped 23 points, with 11 rebounds and two assists. Cam Christie came up with 17 points, three assists and two rebounds off the bench while Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 12 points, five assists and four rebounds.

As the Suns improved their tally to 4-5, owing to a memorable debut of Jalen Green, let’s get into the three key takeaways from the Suns vs Clippers clash.

Jalen Green’s Explosive Debut Powers Suns’ Offense

Jalen Green, who the Phoenix Suns acquired from the Houston Rockets during the offseason along with Dillon Brooks, made his debut for the franchise on Wednesday. Green missed the Suns’ first eight games with a right hamstring strain, but was available against the Rockets. Needless to say, Green wasted no time justifying his move and poured in 29 points, while shooting 10-of-20 from the field and 6-of-13 from beyond the arc.

Backed with Devin Booker’s 24 points, six rebounds, and seven assists, Green addressed the Suns’ early-season backcourt. Green’s debut clearly indicates that the Suns are on their way to find their groove especially after they let Kevin Durant go.

Phoenix Suns’ Third-Quarter Surge Take LA Clippers Down

By the end of the first half, the Suns trailed their counterparts 51-48, considering the Suns ended the second quarter with 17 points. However, right in the beginning of the second half, the Suns, led by Royce O’Neale, came out fiery and started to take control back from the Clippers. The hosts showed great energy around the perimeter and grabbed the biggest lead of the game at 61-55. Green dropped eight points in the third quarter, fueled a 12-point lead for the Suns as they began turning defense into massive offense. By the end of the third quarter, the Suns already had a massive lead and they entered the final frame with an 88-74 lead.

Bradley Beal’s Failed Return Revealed Clippers’ Star Dependency

Bradley Beal, who was out with injury reasons, returned to Phoenix for the first time after splitting with them this summer. While he and the rest of the Clippers were hoping for a blockbuster night, things didn’t actually turn out their way. He could only manage to score five points along with one rebound and one assist, and was booed relentlessly by the home crowd throughout the game. With James Harden and Kawhi Leonard sidelined, LA’s offense crumbled at 102 points. As a team, they could manage to shoot only 32.3% from the field. Though Ivica Zubac tried to help the team afloat, poor overall efforts ruined the night for them.
