Stephen Curry’s Dreadful Performance Leads to Golden State Warriors’ 106–96 Loss to the Houston Rockets

The NBA world was left shocked when the Golden State Warriors’ superstar Stephen Curry came up with just three points against the Houston Rockets on Sunday, April 6. The performance slump from stars like Curry and Jimmy Butler ended the five-game winning streak of the Warriors and they were handed a 106-96 loss by the Houston Rockets at home.

Curry, better known as the three-point King, now records more single-digit games (9) in just the last three seasons than what the Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has in his entire NBA career (8). He was shooting 1-for-10 from the field, including 1-for-8 from the three-point range.

This is the fewest points the four-time champion has scored in an NBA game where he played for more than 30 minutes. Curry scored two points in the 144-93 loss against the Memphis Grizzlies but suffered a pelvic contusion in a hard fall.

Rockets’ Early Dominance Leads to 106-96 Win Over Warriors

The Rockets gained control over the game in the beginning and Dillon Brooks guided them to a 6-0 lead. However, the home favorites quickly got into the game and took the tally 8-6 before the Rockets tied it in no time, and both teams headed into a timeout. The Warriors gained an eleven point lead over their rivals before Amen Thompson took control of the ball and ended the first quarter trailing the Warriors 24-18.

Smith Jr. started the second quarter in a red-hot form and scored points to help the Rockets gain a lead. Dillon Brooks scored well for the visitors while Curry still remained without a score for the Warriors. The second quarter ended with the Rockets leading the Warriors 51-50.

It seemed that the Rockets had finally arrived in the game, as they extended the lead to nine points at one point and continued to exploit the Warriors. The Rockets maintained the lead throughout the quarter and finished it with 83-76. Within no time of heading into the fourth quarter, the Rockets got a 10-point lead over the rivals, and continued to be stronger, limiting the Warriors to record a 106-96 win.

Five players posted above ten points for the Rockets with Dillon Brooks leading the charts with 24 points, three rebounds and two assists. Jalen Green came up with 21 points, three rebounds and five assists while Jabari Smith Jr. finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and one assist.

The Warriors had Buddy Hield leading the scoresheet with 20 points, two rebounds and two assists. Brandin Podziemski scored 19 points, six rebounds and four assists while Gary Payton II chipped in 16 points, five rebounds and two assists. A game that saw disappointing performance from the Warriors didn’t have an impressive gameplay by their newest recruit Jimmy Butler either, who finished with 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.

The Rockets will be back on the court on Wednesday, April 9, to lock horns with the Los Angeles Clippers. The Warriors, on the other hand, will travel to Phoenix for their third-last game of the regular season on Tuesday, April 8.
