Fox has been rehabbing from an offseason hamstring injury.
San Antonio Spurs’ star guard De’Aaron Fox is reportedly set to make his NBA 2025-26 season against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday, November 8. According to reports by ESPN’s Shams Charania, Fox, who has been rehabbing from an offseason hamstring injury. He is “ramped up this week for this weekend debut“. The Spurs ended their two game losing streak by defeating the Houston Rockets on Friday. They will now take on the New Orleans Pelicans in the second of a back-to-back set at home.
Fox hasn’t played since March 12. He opted to undergo a season-ending surgery to repair a torn tendon in his left pinky finger. Later, he suffered a hamstring strain during the offseason while playing five-on-five after being cleared from surgery. In the last season, he played 17 games with the Spurs after he was traded from the Sacramento Kings as a part of a three-team trade on February 5.
In those games, he dropped an average of 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game. He was shooting 44.6% from the field and 27.4% from the three-point range. However, in those 17 games, he was only able to play five games alongside Victor Wembanyama before a deep vein thrombosis in right shoulder ended the latter’s season early.
After having an awful campaign in the 2024-25 season, the Spurs kicked off the current season in red-hot form, winning five games straight. However, they struggled for the next two games but bounced back quickly and defeated the Houston Rockets. De’Aaron Fox will help Victor Wembanyama with his knowledge as a seasoned guard. His addition will improve Wemby and Stephon Castle’s performances and help them move up in the Western Conference standings.
While fans and the franchise are hoping for Fox to start on a strong note, it is to be seen how he will affect the team’s future and standings. The Spurs are in prolific form and are aiming to establish themselves as top contenders in the Western Conference as well as in the league.
