Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green believes Ja Morant’s recent suspension signals deeper problems within the Memphis Grizzlies. Speaking on his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, the veteran shared how he and Stephen Curry sensed something unusual about Ja Morant during Golden State’s 131-118 win over Memphis on October 27.

Draymond Green recalled telling Curry after the game that Morant did not look like himself. “Man, Ja is not in his game at all. Something seems off, he’s not the Ja we know,” Green said. That impression grew stronger after Memphis’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers the following Friday, when Morant declined to discuss his limited minutes and told reporters to ask the coaching staff instead.

The following day, the Grizzlies suspended Ja Morant for one game, citing “conduct detrimental to the team.” For Green, the decision confirmed his suspicion that something more serious was unfolding behind the scenes. “When I saw [Ja’s] comments, I found them interesting, but all they did was confirm what I was seeing,” he explained.

The suspension has sparked debate about how Memphis is managing its franchise cornerstone. Green, who has faced six suspensions in 15 NBA seasons, reflected on the risks of sidelining a star player. “I’m not a big fan of suspending your best players,” he said. “As someone who has been suspended over the years, I don’t think it does much more than anger the players.

When you talk about your first and most important player, and you suspend him, there’s always the possibility that there’s no turning back.”
