With NBA options drying up, Westbrook is being targeted by a Eurocup champion with an unprecedented contract offer
Russell Westbrook may be headed overseas as a European club lines up a record-breaking contract never seen before. The Denver Nuggets star is also running out of options in the NBA after the elimination of his side at the hands of the OKC Thunder in the playoffs.
Westbrook has long been one of the fiercest competitors in professional basketball, known for his relentless drive and grit. He has also managed to win multiple individual accolades such as an MVP award, a nine-time All-Star and has made multiple All-NBA teams.
The one achievement that still remains for Russell Westbrook is an NBA championship, fueling his team-to-team moves. His latest stint with the Denver Nuggets hasn’t been quite impressive as age seems to be catching with the 36-year-old. He averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists this season.
Russell Westbrook finished with a -92 plus/minus in the Nuggets-Thunder series. Final stats:

His offensive output has dropped significantly making him a risky bet on the court. The Denver Nuggets struggled throughout the NBA Playoffs due to an overall lack of offensive firepower and scoring depth. The reliance on Nikola Jokic was quite high. Despite that, Nuggets made it out till the semi finals thanks to clutch winners from Aaron Gordon.
Russell Westbrook is entering into the end of his current contract with the Denver Nuggets. He has a player option to exercise before June 29. Amidst all this, a European side is looking to make a move on the veteran.
European journalist Nemanja Žorič has reported that Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv has made an initial contact with Russell Westbrook. They are desperate to add the guard and are ready to offer a massive contract as well. Something which could lure Westbrook away from the NBA.
Nemanja Žorič posted, “Hapoel Tel Aviv has made initial contact with former NBA All Star Russell Westbrook. Im told the Eurocup champions are planning to make him an offer with a salary never seen before in European basketball.”
The only thing keeping Russell Westbrook in the NBA is his desire to win a ring. If that has been gone down after another unsuccessful season then Westbrook might consider moving overseas. If the 36-year-old exercises the player option with Nuggets, he would go on to earn $3,468,960. The Israeli club’s offer could represent Westbrook’s final shot at a major payday before retirement.
