Russell Westbrook Avoids Answer on Future With Nuggets After Game 7 Loss, Leaves With a Cryptic Response

Westbrook’s career enters limbo after Nuggets' blowout loss, with the veteran refusing to discuss what’s next

Russell Westbrook’s Denver Nuggets have been eliminated from the NBA semifinals after falling to the OKC Thunder in a decisive Game 7 on Sunday. The veteran guard was quickly asked about his future in the post game interview. Westbrook is in his final contract year, with a player option available on the table.

Russell Westbrook didn’t offer a direct response when asked about his future, instead turning the question back on the reporter. He flipped the question on the reporter, asking, “What are you wearing tomorrow?” When the journalist replied, “I don’t know,” Westbrook answered, “Exactly,” and walked off.

What the 36-year-old was trying to imply is that he’s not thinking about his future just as his side was eliminated. The off season has just started and there is plenty of time to decide on the outcome. Westbrook being at the end of his career is desperate to win his first NBA championship.

Yet, despite the disappointing end, Denver still offers Russell Westbrook the best shot at chasing a title. The fourth seed performed well in the regular season and the postseason as well. Injuries have piled up for the 36-year-old, which may limit how many teams will gamble on him next season.

No Fight From Denver as OKC’s Young Core Takes Over

The Denver Nuggets crashed out in a massive 32-point blowout game against the OKC Thunder on Sunday. Despite starting the game fine, the visitors couldn’t carry the momentum any further than the first quarter. The Nuggets just didn’t have the legs to power through the game.

The OKC Thunder, who remain one of the youngest sides in the NBA, brought their A game to the next three quarters. Their 39-20 and 37-26 performance in the second and third quarter respectively sealed the game. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 35 points from a brilliant 12-19 FGs.

On the Denver Nuggets end, the offense was barely moving the needle. Nikola Jokic led their scoresheet with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Russell Westbrook managed to score just 6 points. While Jamal Murray scored 13 points on Sunday.

The Denver Nuggets pack their bags after giving it all in the seven game semi-finals’ series. And the OKC Thunder will face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals from Tuesday.
