Paul George had suffered a hyperextended knee during the Philadelphia 76ers' preseason match against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.
Philadelphia 76ers fans can breathe a sigh of relief as head coach Nick Nurse confirmed star forward Paul George did not suffer any long-term damage to a hyperextended left knee suffered in a preseason game.
“Everything checks out OK,” coach Nick Nurse told reporters at the team’s New Jersey complex.
ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania reported that George did not sustain any structural damage to his left knee. He will be re-evaluated in a week.
Notably, George had suffered a hyperextended knee during the Philadelphia 76ers’ preseason match against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.
While Paul has avoided any serious injury, the 34-year-old forward is still expected to miss at least two weeks, which will potentially sideline him for the start of the regular season. The 76ers— who signed George to a four-year, $212 million contract as a free agent this summer — want to be cautious and do not want to rush George’s return considering they are already missing Joel Embiid.

George made an impressive start in his preseason Sixers debut, scoring 23 points against the Timberwolves. He is expected to play a crucial role alongside 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid and All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey, as they aim to lead the 76ers to an NBA championship this season.
The Sixers will begin their regular season campaign against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
