OKC Thunder Mirror Bulls, Warriors Legacy
OKC Thunder put up one of the most dominant performances against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Anthony Edwards-led Timberwolves were finished in five games. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led his side to their first NBA Finals appearance in more than a decade.
Wednesday’s win wasn’t just historic, it shattered multiple franchise and league records. OKC Thunder topped the West with 68 regular-season wins and have now crossed the 80-win mark overall, including the playoffs. Most of the credit also goes to their regular season performance which set the tone for the post season domination.

OKC Thunder went on to finish at the first place in the Western Conference with 68 wins and just 14 losses. They further dominated by clean sweeping the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Riding that momentum, OKC surged past 80 total wins before even reaching the finals.
They have gone on to replicate what Golden State Warriors under prime Steph Curry and Chicago Bulls under prime Michael Jordan achieved. GSW hit 80 wins before NBA Finals in the 2015-16 season while Chicago Bulls did the same multiple times. First in the 95-96 season and the next in the 96-97 season.
OKC Thunder also became the youngest side to reach the NBA Finals since 1977. Only the 1976-77 Trail Blazers were younger than this OKC squad among NBA Finals teams over the last 50 years. This itself tells the quality and hunger of the Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led side.
Their roster’s average age remains at 24.7. While the 1976-77 Portland Trailblazers featured an average age of 24.5. Interestingly, the young side also went on to win the NBA Finals against the Philadelphia 76ers by 4-2. They were led by the late Bill Walton who was just 24 years old at that time.
OKC’s core features Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (26), Chet Holmgren (23), and Jalen Williams (24), a trio carrying the franchise into its brightest era yet. The oldest player in the roster is Alex Caruso who is just 31-years-old. Apart from this, their efforts were crowned with the Oscar Robertson Trophy, awarded to the Western Conference champions.
