OG Anunoby Injury Update: What Happened to New York Knicks Forward? When will he Return?

Garima Ranawat

The Knicks' starting lineup took a hit in first quarter of Miami Heat clash.

The New York Knicks hosted the Miami Heat for a group stage play of the 2025 NBA Cup on Friday, November 15, at home. The hosts were heading into the game on the back of a blowout loss to the Orlando Magic, and were hoping to turn around the result of the previous game. By the half time, the Knicks had already gained a commanding lead over their counterparts and were looking in a good spot to come on top. However, during the game, their starting lineup took a hit with injury to OG Anunoby.

The Knicks, who were already without Jalen Brunson, saw Anunoby exit the game early with a left hamstring strain. With 6:52 left in the first quarter, Anunoby missed a layup and after a subsequent timeout, was seen rubbing his left hamstring on the bench.

When will OG Anunoby Return?

OG Anunoby later walked to the locker room and the Knicks later ruled him out for the rest of the game. Before leaving, he dropped two points and three rebounds in five minutes of action. Jordan Clarkson started the second half in place of Anunoby.

It goes without saying that injury to the 2019 champion comes as a blow to the Knicks, who were already without their leading scorer, Brunson. Notably, Brunson was diagnosed with a Grade 1 right ankle sprain. Now with two players sitting out, the Knicks will be limited and would expect Karl-Anthony Towns to step into a bigger offensive role. Apart from him, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart will be expected to do more on the wings.

Considering it is just the beginning of the season, the Knicks would want their players to be healthy in the long run. Hence, it can be expected that they let Anunoby take his own time and recover from hamstring injury. Though they would not want a concerning diagnosis of the star forward.
