“Not Chasing Kareem” – LeBron James Nears Robert Parish Milestones But Smiles Off Historic Wins Record Talk

LeBron James’ latest season has been defined by both history and speculation. After missing the first 14 games due to back issues, his return marked entry into an unprecedented 23rd NBA season, a feat no player had previously achieved.

James remains just 38 games away from surpassing Robert Parish for the most games played in league history. He recently moved past Parish in total wins, now sitting at 1,017 career victories. Only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar stands ahead with 1,074 wins, a mark that would likely require James to play another season to reach.

While Steve Nash raised the possibility on the Mind the Game podcast, LeBron dismissed the idea with a smile, saying he was not chasing that record.

The question of whether this could be his final season lingers. No official announcement has been made, and many believe retirement is unlikely. If LeBron James were preparing to walk away, an organized farewell tour similar to Kobe Bryant’s would almost certainly be planned.

Another factor is his younger son, Bryce James, who will be draft-eligible next year. Should the Lakers select him, LeBron could become the first player in NBA history to share the court with two sons, following his current pursuit of playing alongside Bronny.

LeBron James’ Endurance

At 40 years old, James’ performances are no longer at the peak fans once expected, but he remains highly productive. Kendrick Perkins recently suggested that James’ body is signaling it may be time to step away. Perkins noted that injuries have sidelined James in three consecutive seasons, arguing that Father Time is catching up. “His body is telling him, ‘Hey, I’ve been good to you. It’s time for you to be good to me,’” Perkins said.

Even so, LeBron James continues to deliver elite numbers. He is averaging 20.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 7.1 assists while shooting 48.0 percent from the field. Those statistics would be considered outstanding for most players, let alone someone approaching his 41st birthday.

The Lakers currently sit fourth in the Western Conference, and James remains a critical contributor despite playing more of a third-option role than ever before. As long as LeBron James sustains this level of production on a contending team, the competitive fire that has defined his career is unlikely to fade.
