Joel Embiid being absent from the preseason and season opener has prompted an investigation from the NBA
The Philadelphia 76ers have caught the attention of the NBA regarding injury management of Joel Embiid. The 76ers star has been injury-prone throughout his career and has had a history of injuries.
Most recently, he was sidelined during the preseason due to what the NBA team described as left knee injury management “in an individual treatment plan designed to best support his health and wellness for the 2024-25 season.” Back in March this year, Embiid revealed that the 76ers are planning to be more cautious with his playtime to keep him as healthy as possible.
Moreover, the former MVP also made it clear that he will not play back-to-back games upon his return. All of this has led to the NBA wanting to take a deeper look into what is really going on behind the scenes.
As reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, the NBA will begin an investigation this week into the Philadelphia 76ers surrounding the activity concerns of Embiid. It is worth noting that it is typical for the league to review a team anytime a big player misses a nationally televised game according to their player participation policy.
That said, an enquiry does not mean that the team or the player has done anything wrong. It remains to be seen as to how the investigation plays out in the coming weeks.
As mentioned earlier, Joel Embiid has been injury-prone throughout his NBA career. He did not play for two seasons because of a foot injury when following his NBA Draft in 2014.
As he grows older, it is important to take the necessary steps to avoid getting injured regularly. As a result, Embiid dropped around 25-30 pounds to help take pressure off his knees. Embiid played in only 39 games last season because of knee injuries and would look to have a better season this time around.
