Bridges joins Brunson in prioritizing team success over max money

Mikal Bridges has agreed to a four-year extension deal with the New York Knicks. The front office avoided disaster by locking down a key player at a highly favorable discounted deal.

Bridges, acquired from the Nets, cost New York heavily in draft capital but has justified the investment. New York’s front office gave up five first round picks to land the small forward. He has come good in his first season in New York, averaging 17.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Mikal Bridges agreed to a four-year deal worth $150 million on Thursday. He will be earning an average of $37.5 million annually through his extension. This also includes a player option for the 2029-30 season.

The 28-year-old opted to leave $6 million on the table to give the Knicks more roster-building flexibility. Mikal Bridges walked on similar lines to Jalen Brunson who also took a pay cut last summer, signing a four-year, $156.5M contract extension.

Knicks Must Address Robinson Situation Next

After tying one of their crucial backcourt pieces, the New York Knicks will now move their focus towards Mitchell Robinson. The Center is on an expiring deal and a decision on his future will need to be made. He is eligible for a four-year, $81M extension this summer.

The 27-year-old recently shared a cryptic Instagram post with caption, “What I want them to see vs what’s really going on🤘🏾 leave em guessing 🙂‍↕ big things coming.” Fans are now speculating about Robinson’s next move, with his Knicks future uncertain heading into the offseason.

However, the Knicks will be confident going into the new season after tying Mikal Bridges. He remains one of their most prized assets, and with an open Eastern Conference, the New York Knicks eyes a deep postseason run.
