Miami Heat had a colossal loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Playoffs. It was an embarrassing 4-0 clean sweep where the Heat failed to come close even in a single game, let alone winning it. The series clean sweep in a way tells the story of how the current season has gone for the side. Once a consistent playoff team, it is now not even able to compete with the best.

Consistent scoring problems have marred not only their first round series but also the whole season. Apart from Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo, Miami Heat have lacked a consistent offensive threat in the side. The Heat are ranked at the 24th position in terms of points in this season. They average only 110.6 points per game, sitting even behind teams like Utah Jazz and Toronto Raptors.

Even their defense has been shaky despite having bigs in the side. They ranked 21st in terms of rebounding, which tells a story of how inconsistency in defense has plagued the overall team’s performance. Miami Heat is looking at a long rebuild that starts from the right off season moves.

What’s Next for the Miami Heat After Their 4–0 Playoff Exit?

After an embarrassing 4-0 playoff loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the front office has to be active throughout the off season to make the right moves. Miami Heat have wiggle room in terms of salary cap after the departure of Jimmy Butler early this year. The franchise is projected to be approximately $14.9 million below the first luxury tax apron.

Additionally, when considering the second luxury tax threshold, the Heat have even more breathing room, about $26.8 million to work with. The three time NBA champions by shifting certain players can improve their cap even more. Reports are already floating that Pat Riley is looking at Kevin Durant, who is unhappy at the Phoenix Suns. Though, Durant’s trade would be a high risk, high reward move.

The NBA legend has a history of injuries, and age is not on his side as well. If the Miami Heat are looking for a rebuild, they should avoid moving for an aged player. Even if Durant joins the Heat, that will only present themselves with a very short term fix. Durant is an elite scorer and could complement Tyler Herro in terms of scoring. The 36-year-old averaged 26 points and 6 rebounds for the Suns in the regular season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is another NBA star being linked to a move to the Miami Heat. Given the management problems at the Milwaukee Bucks, the Greek Freak is looking to give meaning to his prime years by moving to a more hungry franchise. Is that Miami Heat? Whether Antetokounmpo sees Miami as the right fit for his prime years will be one of the biggest storylines of the upcoming offseason.

Hypothetically, if Giannis joins the Miami Heat, he will solve a lot of on court problems. The 32-year-old has a stat sheet that only a rare set of players have in the league. This season, the Greek freak has averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists. If Antetokounmpo is available for trade, Pat Riley should be all over it. But the concerning point is if the owners will agree to stretch their salary cap. And even if they did, the Miami Heat will have to give away some of their young stars in the trade.

What Do the Miami Heat’s Draft Prospects Look Like?

With the off season trades being more complicated, the Miami Heat will turn their focus on the draft as well. For the upcoming draft, the Miami Heat has two first round picks. They are in a good position to pick some high ceiling college basketball players. However, that will not provide them with instant success.
