The Miami Heat are at a crossroads, desperate to shake up their roster after a lackluster 2025 season that saw their Terry Rozier-Tyler Herro backcourt, not work at all. With Rozier benched by season’s end, Herro surprisingly took over and was the first-time All-Star, cementing his role as a franchise cornerstone. Now, Miami is out hunting for a new point guard to complement Herro’s success and a blockbuster trade move has made ignited exciting for the Heat fans again. A proposed deal with the San Antonio Spurs could land De’Aaron Fox, and pairing him with Herro could form one of the best backcourts offensively,

The Heat’s postseason averages hinge on bold moves, as their current core lacks the firepower to go up against any of the upper-echelon of teams. Fox is a dynamic playmaker that could be the missing piece, but the Spurs are now going to let go off him that easy. The Spurs, meanwhile, are building around Wembanyama and might prioritize youth over Fox’s presence.
Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Conner proposed a trade sending De’Aaron Fox to the Heat with the Spurs receiving Duncan Robinson, Hayhood Highsmith, Nikola Jovic, the No. 20 pick and unprotected first-round picks in 2030 and 2032. Fox, in the final year of a $163 million deal, would join Herro to form a potent backcourt, which also addresses Miami’s need for a facilitating guard after a failed Rozier tenure. Herro averaged career-high in points with 23.9 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists on 47.2 % shooting from the field.

For San Antonio, the trade aligns with the need for youth, alowing them to draft Dylan Harper. The Spurs can pair Stephon Castle, Wembanyama, and Dylan Harper for length deals. Fox is however long term committed to the Spurs after forcing his way out of Sacramento last year. While the chances of this trade happening are zero to none, it is however, and interesting to think what the two guards can do together? Can they went one or two playoff series?
