Cooper Flagg, 18-year old from Duke, has electrified the basketball world with his two-way dominance, and was selected as the No.1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. At 6’9″ Flagg’s versatility shines on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists, while showcasing his explosive above the rim play, a reliable but not perfect three-point shooting at 38.5% from beyond the arc, and his growing playmaking skills.

Defensively, his 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per game, highlighted his ability to guard multiple positions and disrupt plays, earning ACC All-Defensive honors. His biggest attribute of all is his relentless energy and leadership, diving for loose balls and making hustle plays every chance he gets, which was praised by Duke’s coach Jon Scheyer and his teammates.

Flagg emerges as the premier American-born prospect since Zion Williamson, a standout in an era where international players like Victor Wembanyama have headlined drafts prior. Unlike recent U.S prospects with limited visibility, Flagg’s complete skill set draws Anthony Davis comparisons, offering a high floor and superstar potential.

The Dallas Mavericks didn’t play him much in the NBA Summer League but in small outings for Dallas, Flagg left a big impact. He scored 31 points in a Summer League encounter which is highest by the No. 1 Overall Pick in the Summer League since 2017. Flagg alongside Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson, could be a scary sight for years to come.

Cooper Flagg’s twin brother is named Ace Flagg. Similar to his brother, Ace is also a basketball player who was a teammate at Nokomis.

Later, he transferred to Montverde, then again moved to Montverde Academy where he won a state championship. He has now committed to play for university of Maine starting in 2025-26. He is a 6-foot-8 forward and is a three-star prospect in the 2025 class.

When Ace was asked by News Center Maine’s reporters about their brotherly relationship, he said, “We couldn’t play a game in our driveway without someone bleeding. It was terrible. I mean every single time. There would be fist fights. The game would end when someone ran in yelling for mom because someone punted the ball across the street or hit each other, but, it was always fun.”

The Flagg brothers sound like they were extremely competitive even from a young age but now Cooper is headed to the NBA, and Ace will try to achieve big things like his brother, playing for the Black Bears.
