Mavericks Target $134M Trade for 2-Time NBA Champ Jrue Holiday to Boost Title Hopes

The Dallas Mavericks have a lot to think about going into the offseason, especially their point guard situation. Mavericks’ star guard Kyrie Irving when down with an ACL injury, earlier this year in March. He is not expected to be back on the court at least until January of 2026, and the team only has Brandon Williams and Jaden Hardy to rely on, which is not a good sign for them. The Mavs desperately need a quality guard who can handle the rock, play defense, and score the ball when needed, and Celtics’ guard Jrue Holiday might be the perfect fit for them.

Mavericks’ $134M Trade Rumor- Targeting 2-Time NBA Champ Jrue Holiday

Jrue Holiday is coming off of a horrible season, by his standards, and shot just 35.3 percent from beyond the arc in the 2024-25 season. While he is still great on both ends of the floor, the fact of the matter is that he is going to be a 35 year defensive guard soon, and the Boston Celtics may also not be able to hold on to him much longer, as they have a lot of thinking to do themselves this offseason. So why is Holiday a great target for the Mavericks?

The Mavericks need a guard who can be a reliable replacement for Irving, at least until he returns to play next season. Holiday can be the guard that the Mavs need, as the group has already secured the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft in Cooper Flagg, and they will also have the services of Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively, Klay Thompson, when it comes to scoring the ball. All Holiday will need to do is play the point, as he has done his entire career, and defend to the best of his capabilities.

According to Bleacher Reports’ Dan Favale, he proposed a trade where the Mavericks would send away Daniel Gafford, and P.J. Washington to the Celtics, and the they can receive Jrue Holiday in return. Holiday could hold down the fort until Irving’s return, and when in full strength the Mavs can have Holiday, Irving, Cooper Flagg, and Anthony Davis all playing together. However, the only question is, is Jrue Holiday worth trading Gafford and Washington away? The answer may be no for now, but this trade does make a lot of sense for the Mavericks currently as they don’t have a true facilitator yet.
