We Want to Try to Win: Mavericks Minority Owner Mark Cuban Puts Rest to Anthony Davis Trade Rumors

Dallas Mavericks’ minority owner (former majority owner) Mark Cuban has quashed trade rumors of their big man Anthony Davis, suggesting that the franchise wants to try winning. Notably, ever since the Mavs fired their General Manager Nico Harrison, rumors around Anthony Davis’ trade started making rounds on the internet. A few media reports also suggest that the franchise is now aiming to revamp its roster around first overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft, Cooper Flagg.

However, amidst all the buzz online, Mavs former majority owner Cuban has denied the reports of Mavs exploring a trade market for Anthony Davis. “We won’t. We want to try to win,” Cuban told The Athletic. However, it won’t be Cuban’s decision alone, and he isn’t the one to make the final call, but he is now serving as an adviser to Patrick Dumont, hence, his statement makes sense. Notably, Dallas acquired Davis from Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for their generational superstar Luka Doncic in a blockbuster trade before the trade deadline in February this year.

However, he has spent more time off court rather than playing for his new team due to persistent injury issues. So far, he has only played 14 games for the side, averaging 20.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. In the ongoing season, he averaged 25.0 points in his first four games before suffering a calf injury in fifth game. He is reportedly expected to return once Mavs medical staff clears him for reactivation.

Shams Charania Drops Latest Report Contrary to Mark Cuban’s Statement

While Mark Cuban has assured Anthony Davis fans that the franchise won’t trade him, the latest report by Shams Charania suggests otherwise. According to Charania, the Mavs will listen to trade calls for the ten-time NBA All-Star and explore his value. “This franchise is moving away from Nico Harrison’s three to four year championship window and toward trying to find sustained success and sustained growth around Cooper Flagg in youth,” Charania stated on ESPN NBA Countdown.

“And to that end sources have told ESPN that the Mavericks will be listening to trade calls for Anthony Davis and seeing and exploring his value. And for that health will be the biggest key because not only for the Mavericks to evaluate Anthony Davis over a lengthy period of time, and extended period of time on the court, but for other teams that could have interest in him to see what he looks like when he’s back with this team.”

“What this team [Dallas Mavericks] looks like when he’s back, a lot of evaluation to come around Anthony Davis.”

While his next location isn’t decided yet, teams such as Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks could be interested in signing the 2020 NBA Champion.
