Doncic, who is currently with his national team, was on the court after missing the last two friendlies, and appeared in the clash against Latvia. The game soon sent scares for Lakers fans as Doncic got hurt early in the second half after his teammate collided with him.

In the early third quarter, when Doncic was defending under the rim, his teammate Gregor Hrovat accidentally crashed into his right knee. The five-time NBA All-Star, who had already posted 26 points, four rebounds, and five assists by then, winced in pain and remained on the floor for a few minutes. Moments after it, he walked off the court and went to Slovenia’s locker room.

Luka Doncic’s Injury Reportedly Not Serious

Fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief after Doncic returned to the bench shortly thereafter, indicating that the injury was not serious. Though he had an ice pack wrapped around his knee and he was seen favoring the injured leg. He also tried to convince the medical staff to return but the team doctors played it safe by ruling him out for the remainder of the game.

After game, Slovenia coach Aleksander Sekulić was asked about Doncic’s injury update. However, he refused to share an update by saying, “I can’t talk about the situation at this moment. When we know more, we will inform the public about it.”

Later, NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Doncic was diagnosed with a right knee contusion. According to Stein, there was no sign of ligament tear, fracture, or sprain and the injury was believed to be a deep bruise. He is expected to be back on the court soon with full recovery. Though Slovenia could rest him during friendlies and include him in the lineup for the clash against Poland on August 28.
