On Wednesday, April 30, the Minnesota Timberwolves pulled off a series upset over the third-seeded Los Angeles Lakers and knocked them out of the NBA Playoffs 2025. The Lakers, who finished the regular season with a staggering 50-32 record, were favorites to make it to the Western Conference semifinals. However, fate had another plan.

The Lakers’ superstar LeBron James is 40 years old, and proudly holds the badge of being the oldest active player in the league. The 21-time NBA All-Star is as active as earlier days- breaking records, entering record books, and whatnot. In simple words, there are no signs of slowing down. But, as every good thing comes to an end, there will be a day when the Lakers’ GOAT would bid adieu to his career.

After the Lakers got knocked out of the 2025 championship race, James was asked about how long he is planning to play. However, he didn’t have any answer to it, and said that he would take a call after discussing it with family, wife, and support group. Fair enough!

LeBron James is a generation player. He has achieved everything a player would have wanted to- Titles, MVPs, All-Star selections, Olympic Medals, loyal fans, and so much more one could only dream of. However, over the last couple years, his stats have indicated that things might have started to go downhill.

LeBron James’ Poor Playoff Stats Indicate It’s Time For King James To Hang Up Boots

According to ESPN, James has been eliminated in five games or less in his three playoff series. The Ohio-born has maintained a poor 2-12 record in the last three playoff series. In 2025, the Los Angeles Lakers slumped to the lower-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves 1-4.

Before the beginning of the series, they were considered heavy favorites to advance to the next round. However, they brutally fell to the Anthony Edwards-led side, marking the third time James suffered a first-round exit.

Before it, in 2024 and 2023, the Lakers went down to the Denver Nuggets. While they suffered a painful first-round 1-4 exit in the 2024 season, the seventeen-time champions were swept by the Denver Nuggets 4-0 in the Conference Finals in 2023. The constant decline in James’ performance in the postseason has led to whispers that he might call time on his glorious career soon.
