LeBron James Expected to Stay With Los Angeles Lakers Despite Trade Rumors

NBA icon LeBron James will reportedly stay with the Los Angeles Lakes despite the rumors that he might end up somewhere else. Recently, James opted for his $52.6 million player option which led to reports that James could be looking for a way out of the Lakers. Not only this, but his friend and agent Rich Paul stated that the 21-time NBA All-Star “wants to compete for a championship.”

Not only this, but he also added, “We do want to evaluate what’s best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career. He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what’s best for him.” This is not it. It was also reported that four teams including Cavaliers, Mavericks, Warriors and the Clippers showed interest in signing him.

However, amidst all the rumors, Anthony Irwin of Clutch Points reported that James might re-sign with the Lakers for his 23rd season in the league. He stated, “Some sources take that a step further and posited that not only would James play out the upcoming season with the Lakers, but that he would also likely re-sign after the season with the intent to eventually retire in Los Angeles.” He added, “There’s also the possibility of LeBron making 2025-26 his final season, but either way, he would be retiring as a Laker.”

Anthony Irwin Opines No Team Would be Interested in Offering LeBron James $60 Million for One Season

Irwin went on to say that there wouldn’t be many teams which would offer James $60 million. It is because it is not certain how much longer he will play. He added that even if a team does, it would put on additional pressure on the team to win. Irwin said, “After all this, how funny would it be if James not only stays with the Lakers this season, but then re-signs next summer because they still have his Bird rights? Again, sources close to the Lakers and around the league have indicated that still remains very possible, if not probable.”

Notably, James became a part of the Lakers for 2018-19 season and has spent seven seasons with them. If he decides to return, it would mark the longest consecutive period he has spent with a team. While no announcement has been made, the possibilities of him returning to the Lakers in 2026-27 seem possible.
