NBA writer Yaron Weitzman has revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers threatened him with legal action over his new book, A Hollywood Ending: The Dreams and Drama of the LeBron Lakers. The book, which draws from more than 300 interviews, explores the internal battles within the organization since LeBron James joined the franchise.

Yaron Weitzman disclosed in a TikTok video that the Los Angeles Lakers attempted to intimidate him into withholding certain details, particularly those involving team governor Jeanie Buss. According to him, the organization went as far as hiring high-profile attorney Marty Singer, who issued a strongly worded letter warning of potential legal consequences if the book was published.

The journalist explained that he began working on the project in early 2023 and reached out to Buss and the Lakers for comment. He said he even met with Buss privately, though she later acknowledged those meetings publicly. In one interview, Jeanie Buss remarked that Weitzman had suggested she ran a “bare bones organization,” a claim he insists was not his but rather a reflection of what others had told him during reporting.

Yaron Weitzman emphasized that his role was to ask questions and present findings, not to accuse. Still, the Lakers’ legal team accused him of producing “thinly-veiled misogynistic smears” and displaying “chauvinism and negative bias” that undermined his sources. Singer’s letter further warned that unlike empty legal threats, the Lakers had both the reputation and resources to pursue a strong libel case.

These revelations appear to have unsettled the Los Angeles Lakers, who have yet to issue an official statement but signaled their seriousness by retaining Marty Singer.
