LA Clippers Coaching Staff – All about the Clippers Head Coach, Assistant Coaches and Other Coaching Staff

The Los Angeles Lakers are on a roll off lately in this season! After finishing the NBA 2024-25 regular season with a splendid run with an 18-3 tally since early March, the Clippers managed to reach the 50-win mark. In the final regular-season game, the Clippers took down the seven-time champions Golden State Warriors, which earned them the fifth seed in the Western Conference. They have been paired against the Denver Nuggets in the First Round series, where they won the second game to tie the series 1-1 after first two games.

James Harden, regarded as one of the greatest shooting guards in the history of the league, led the Clippers with an average of 22.8 points, 8.7 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game this season. Apart from him, Norman Powell came up with a seasonal average of 21.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Center Ivica Zubac has been leading them in rebounds and blocks with an average of 12.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.

While the roster is responsible for their explosive campaign this season, the Clippers’ coaching staff deserves equal credit. The Clippers have Tyronn Lue at the helm of their coaching staff, who has been associated with the side for almost six years now. Jeff Van Gundy serves as the lead assistant coach, and has Larry Drew, Dahntay Jones, Brendan O’Connor, Brian Shaw, Jay Larranaga, Shaun Fein, and Jeremy Castleberry under him as the assistant coaches.

Jasen Powell serves as the head athletic trainer at the Clippers, while Colby Claridy, and Daniel Aube are the assistant athletic trainers.

LA Clippers’ Head Coach

Tyronn Lue, the former Los Angeles Lakers point guard, has been associated with the Clippers for almost six years now. He joined the franchise’s coaching staff in 2013 after a two-year stint with the Boston Celtics. Lue didn’t spend much time with the Clippers and moved to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014, where he won his first NBA championship as head coach.

He had replaced David Blatt as the head coach mid season, and he soon became the first coach in the history of the league to win his first 10 postseason games. He has time and again been praised for his long-sighted mentality in the game and creating game-winning strategies accordingly. The 47-year-old was fired by the Cavs after they started the 2018-19 season on a 0-6 run.

Making his return with the Clippers in the 2019-20 season, Lue was named the lead assistant coach to head coach Doc Rivers. He led the side to their first Western Conference finals as the head coach in 2020.

LA Clippers’ Lead Assistant Coach

The former New York Knicks and Houston Rockets’ head coach, Jeff Van Gundy joined the Clippers as the lead assistant coach in 2024. It is his first stint as a NBA coaching staff member since 2007. Before this he served as the assistant coach of the Knicks and guided them to three Atlantic Division titles, Eastern Conference finals in 1993, and the NBA Finals in 1994. He was appointed as the head coach of the franchise in 1996, before leading the coaching staff of the Houston Rockets in 2003 and the senior United States national team in 2017.

He guided the side to a gold at the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup and 2019 FIBA World Cup qualification. Following it, Gundy joined the Boston Celtics as their senior consultant in 2023.

LA Clippers’ Assistant Coaches and Trainers

The Clippers have hired Larry Drew, Dahntay Jones, Brendan O’Connor, Brian Shaw, Jay Larrangana, Shaun Fein, and Jeremy Castleberry as their assistant coaches. In addition, Jaesn Powell has been their lead athletic trainer since 1999. Colby Claridy and Daniel Aube are the assistant athletic trainers at the Clippers since 2017 and 2024, respectively.
