The Mavs thrashed Timberwolves 109-84 to finish the preseason with a 1-3 record.
One of the most defining traits of a world-class athlete is their ability to make a strong comeback. That’s exactly what veteran guard Klay Thompson did in the Dallas Mavericks’ win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday.
Thompson was heavily criticized following a poor show in the Mavericks’ loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday. The 4-time NBA champion failed to score, shooting 0-for-9 from the field and missing all six of his three-point attempts as the Mavs went down 110-96 against the Clippers.
However, the veteran silenced his critics with a comeback performance on Thursday. The 34-year-old had 11 points, six rebounds, and two assists while shooting 3/7 from the three-point range in 18 minutes.
Thompson joined the Mavericks in free agency after ending his 13-year tenure with the Golden State Warriors. While many teams including Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers were in line to pursue Thompson, the five-time All-Star, decided to join the Mavericks. One of they key reasons behind his move was Luka Doncic.
After Thursday’s game, Thompson spoke about Doncic and heaped high praise for the star point guard.
“I think we’ll be great, and a huge reason why I’m here is because of Luka and a chance to play with him… We’ll have a lot of time to build great chemistry. He’s such a great player; I don’t think he needs much time to get acclimated to new teammates. He’s elevated everybody’s game since he’s been in the NBA.”
The Mavs will play their season opener on October 24 when they host the San Antonio Spurs.
