Kevin Durant Prefers Heat, Spurs and Rockets As His Top Three Trade Destinations!

The talks of Kevin Durant's off-season trade have intensified!

The Phoenix Suns’ superstar Kevin Durant has been in trade talks for a few months now. While not much was known, it seems that the talks have intensified considering the offseason and his expiring contract. According to a report by ESPN, his top three trade preferred destinations include Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets. Reports suggest that these are the three teams the two-time NBA Champions would commit to with a long-term extension.

Notably, Durant is in the final year of his $54.7 million contract for the 2025-26 season. Once it expires, he would become a free agent. Despite having a few teams that Durant would want as his fifth possible destination, the Suns are on a lookout for the best deal from across the eight franchises which have shown interest in him. It means that the Suns may trade him to one of the six-eight interested teams, irrespective of his preference.

It is to be noted that the talks of Durant’s move have been brewing since February 2025. During that time, he reportedly declined a deal with the Golden State Warriors.

Kevin Durant’s Possible Trade Scenario Explained

While three teams have interested Kevin Durant, at least eight teams are reportedly interested in acquiring the former MVP. The Heat don’t have a championship roster but their no income tax comes as a huge plus. Apart from them, the Spurs and the Rockets are two young teams. Having an experienced player like Durant would help them push for better campaigns.

Talking about Durant, if he is traded, the fifteen-time NBA All-Star would be eligible to sign a two-year contract extension worth $122 million starting July 6, 2025. However, if he waits for six months, he would get a deal worth up to $124 million. The two-time NBA Finals MVP is set to turn 37 this September. However, despite his age, he averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 62 games in the 2024-25 season.

In addition, Durant has averaged at least 25 points, 50% shooting and 40% on 3-pointers in three straight seasons, which is the longest streak ever in the NBA. Talking about the Suns, despite having a star-studded trio of Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, the Phoenix-based franchise finished with a below-par record of 36 wins and 46 losses, in the 11th spot.

After acquiring him, the Suns made the playoffs in 2023 but fell to the Denver Nuggets in the second round. Last year, they were swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves. With both Durant and the Suns working on his trade, the NBA awaits the beginning of a new chapter of one of its future Hall of Famers.
